Admissions

Admission to our Graduate Program requires the approval of both the Graduate College and the School of Chemical Engineering. The normal minimum requirements include graduation from an ABET-accredited B.S. program and an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0/4.0 or equivalent credentials from an international university. To apply for admission, you need to submit the following materials:

    •       A completed "Graduate Application for Admission" form

    •       Two official transcripts from the school(s) you previously attended

    •      Letters of Recommendation from three faculty members who are acquainted with your academic abilities

    •       Scores from the General Portion of the Graduate Record Examination

    •     $50.00 application fee ($75.00 for international applicants) in the form of a check or money order in U.S. dollars payable to "Oklahoma State University"

    •       Applicants whose native language is not English must also submit results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination. The minimum acceptable score on the TOEFL exam for admission to Chemical Engineering is 79 (internet-based test), 213 (computer based test) or 550 (paper based test).

Information and electronic admission forms are available in Adobe Acrobat PDF Format on the OSU Graduate College web page.

We must receive all the above materials before we can evaluate your application, since each of these items is considered in the evaluation process. Please send only the materials itemized above.

Students with undergraduate degrees in closely-related fields such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, biological sciences or another engineering discipline are also invited to apply for admission to our graduate program. Such applications are evaluated on an individual basis, and specific plans of study are developed for each student. These study plans typically include an additional 10-15 semester credit hours of undergraduate courses in Chemical Engineering. Usually, we have several students with undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering, chemistry or physics in our graduate program, and they have had good success.

We will make a decision regarding admission and financial aid promptly upon receipt of your application. The application deadline for applying in the Fall semester is March 1 and the deadline for applying in the Spring semester is October 1. Applicants will be notified by email and in writing upon receipt of their application, and they will be informed of any missing items, which should be provided immediately. All fully-qualified students who are admitted to our program receive financial support; you need not complete any separate applications for support.
