News from Chemical Engineering
Dr. Randy S. Lewis was chosen as the 2001 AIChE Student Chapter Advisor of the Year. This is a national award, only one is given per year, and there are about 150 student chapter advisors in the U.S. While the students have done the work leading to their several Outstanding Chapter recognitions, Randy has been their leader of leaders, sustaining commitment and dedication for the past 8 years. The student chapter has been valuable to our program. By providing a sense of family among students and informal interaction with faculty, it supports retention. By offering programs and encouraging high attendance, it promotes professionalism and career awareness in the students. By sponsoring many activities, it provides many student leadership opportunities and valuable services to the School. Through nationally recognized successes in program participation, Chapter newsletter honors, hosting of the Student Chapter National Conference, and attendance at regional conferences; the Student Chapter makes the quality of CHENG human resources visible to both academic and industrial communities. Congratulations to Randy and to our students!
