Outstanding AIChE
Student Chapter Ninth Year
in a Row for OSU
AIChE National
Headquarters recognized the OSU
AIChE Student Chapter as
"Outstanding" for their
2006-2007 school year
activities. This is a top 10%
rating of all student chapters
in the nation; based on student
participation, programming a ctivities, and the contribution
of the chapter to the
professional development of the
students. Our student chapter
earned this recognition nine
years consecutively, and
frequently before that. This
is an outstanding record of
sustained performance. Our
students appreciate the human
and leadership aspects that
complement the technical matter
of engineering.
The photo shows
the 2007 seniors enjoying the
time between the real graduation
photos, wearing their OSU ChE
shirts, provided by alumni as a
graduation present – to be worn
with pride in subsequent years.
The student
chapter is fortunate to have an
energetic and dedicated advisor,
assistant professor Dr. Sundar
Madihally. He won the college
Halliburton Outstanding Young
Teacher Award in 2006 and the
OSU President’s leadership award
in 2005.
Aleisha McCabe, 2007-2008 Chapter President
accepted the award from Dr.
David Dickson, Student Chapter
Committe Chair,
at the National Meeting in Salt
Lake City November 2007.
Chapter Faculty Advisor, Sundar

Students lead the
chapter. They plan and bring
things to fruition. They
develop themselves
professionally by organizing
field trips to companies, or
bringing in speakers to talk
about careers in chemical
engineering. They also have fun
events such as picnics, a golf
tournament, pizza night, dodge
ball, and laser tag. They
support the community in a
variety of activities including
Christmas time Adopt-a-Family
with the public schools, and
their own ChemKidz team that
brings the magic and awe of
chemical engineering experiments
to elementary school
classrooms. They support the
department in many ways in
hosting high school groups,
tutoring, etc. Finally, they
play an active role in both the
regional and national AIChE
conference activities such as
paper presentations, the
chemical reaction powered car
competition.
The entire
department contributes to the
environment that supports this
extraordinary success of student
leadership and honor for OSU.
We are grateful to our alumni
and friends for providing
financial support that enables
the student activities.
