Society Service Award
ISA, the International
Society for Automation
recognized Dr. R. Russell
Rhinehart with a 2009
Distinguished Society Service
Award. Six others were also
honored for their “Outstanding
service and contributions to the
Society and its Members”.

is Editor-in-Chief of ISA
Transactions, an international
journal of the science and
engineering of measurement and
control. He accepted this
volunteer role eleven years ago;
and since, Transactions has
tripled is size, added four
associate editors, and steadily
risen in impact factor and other
ratings. Russ also presently
serves on the Automation
Engineering Committee for ISA,
which is seeking to enhance
workforce development to fill
the need for control engineers
within US manufacturing.
Formerly, he served as the
national Director for ISA’s
Automatic Control Systems
Division, and represented ISA to
the Board of Directors of the
American Automatic Control
Council. Russ continues to
contribute articles to ISA
publications and conference
programming. Established
in 1945, ISA is a society of
automation professionals, with
about 20,000 members in the US,
and 30,000 world-wide. ISA is
recognized for the development
of standards in instrument and
control systems, hosting the
largest automation exposition in
the US, and providing continuing
education and training.
