Outstanding AIChE Student
Chapter Eleventh Year in a Row
for OSU
AIChE National Headquarters
recognized the OSU AIChE Student
Chapter as "Outstanding" for
their 2008-2009 school year
activities. This is a top 10%
rating of all student chapters
in the nation, which is based on
student participation,
programming activities, and the
contribution of the chapter to
the professional development of
the students. Our student
chapter earned this recognition
eleven years consecutively, and
frequently before that.

Here is a photo from the fall
welcome picnic, and our favorite
activities - talking and eating.
What is the random chance of
being included in the top 10%
eleven years consecutively? It
is (0.10)11, which is 0.00…ten
zeros...001. Or you could say we
are 99.999999999% sure about
this outstanding legacy, which
indicates faculty and student
interest in the human and
leadership aspects that
complement the technical matter
of engineering.
This photo shows the 2009
seniors. Good bye and best
wishes! Although many were
leaders in the chapter
activities, we have great
leadership participation in the
lower classes that became our
new seniors, juniors, and
sophomores. And, our new
freshmen class continues our
tradition of outstanding
qualifications.
The student chapter is fortunate
to have an energetic and
dedicated advisor, associate
professor Dr. Sundar Madihally.
He won the college Halliburton
Outstanding Young Teacher Award
in 2006 and the OSU President’s
leadership award in 2005. We
have also been very fortunate to
have a record of outstanding
faculty advisors to the chapter.
In 2001 Randy Lewis was named
outstanding advisor in the US
and in 1981, Jan Wagner.
Other student chapters receiving the 2009 Outstanding recognition include
Bucknell, Brigham Young U, UCLA, Georgia Tech, U Iowa, KSU, U Kentucky
(Lexington), U Kentucky (Paducah), Mississippi State, New Mexico State, New
Jersey Institute of Technology, Oregon State, Texas A&M, and U Virginia.
Most of these are also frequent award recipients, indicating strong faculty
interest in developing all aspects of student professional development. Good
company.
