National Award for Student
Paper Presentation
Ali Moshfeghian, now a
graduate student in the School of Chemical Engineering, won Second Place
nationally in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)
Student Paper Contest at the AIChE Annual Meeting held in San Francisco,
September 2003. In the path to qualify for national competition, as a
senior ChE student, Ali won First Place at the AIChE regional
competition in Lawrence, Kansas. His paper detailed his work, under the
guidance of Dr. Sundar Madihally, on developing techniques to form novel
blends of polymers with unique biomechanical properties.
Judging criteria include oral
presentation style, technical content, and ability to satisfy technical
questions from the judges. Notably, for the past several years our
students have taken regional and national honors for their presentation
of technical work, which frequently becomes accepted for written
publication in refereed media. Ali is sustaining our tradition of
student performance at the national level.

Notable: Ali’s father earned
his PhD in Chemical Engineering at OSU. Quite a family heritage!
