A Message from
Dr. R. Russell
Rhinehart.
Welcome to the School of
Chemical Engineering at
Oklahoma State University.
As a career, chemical engineering provides great
rewards for both society and the individual. And, as place to prepare,
OSU offers excellent programs, and an encouraging environment in which
you will enjoy the challenging work. I hope these pages give you a
glimpse of our human side as well as useful information about our
programs.
At Oklahoma State, we emphasize the individual
development of each student, and are pleased in the outcomes -
accomplishments at the national level. Our program is small enough
that we can give you the attention you deserve, yet large enough to
provide the resources needed for quality education and research.
We stress the "engineering" in chemical
engineering. Most of our faculty members have significant industrial
experience. As a result, we are able to bring "real world"
applications into our teaching and research efforts. Practical
training (in both technology and team effectiveness) is a hallmark of
our program; and we can site our student successes in the
national design contest and the
reaction powered car competition.
At the same time, we stress the scientific and
engineering fundamentals in our work. Another hallmark of our program
is the national success of our students on the
Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
As preparation to become professional partners and
leaders, we encourage all students to participate in extra curricular
activities. We are pleased with the legacy of accomplishments of
our student teams,
individuals,
and
seniors. The overall experience has produced exceptional
students. For six of the past seven years our student chapter was
ranked as outstanding, and this year the two national Goldwater Scholars
from Oklahoma are our students.
Our faculty members have won numerous awards as
excellent teachers in both the
classroom, in one-on-one situations, and in
advising.
They also hold a variety of national offices in professional societies. We value students. Through you, we fulfill our mission
and contribute to human well being.
The information in these pages also shows the
diversity of interests among our faculty. At OSU, you will have the
opportunity to pursue your particular interests, you will be exposed to
the wide range of chemical engineering specializations, and you will
have the resources and support to prepare for an exciting and rewarding
career.
Best wishes as you continue your education. Give
our program your serious consideration. I know you can find the
opportunities, attention, and expertise you seek at OSU -- and some time
to enjoy yourself while you are here, too!
Sincerely,

R. Russell Rhinehart, Ph.D.
