Development of the Essence of the Profession

Our School of Chemical Engineering has eleven faculty members pursuing a spectrum of research activities.   At any time, we usually also have several visiting professors and/or post-Doctorate scholars in the School.   About 1/3 of our graduate students are M.S. and 2/3 are Ph.D. candidates, but all, including a number of undergraduate researchers, are partners in our efforts to create knowledge and tools for the profession.   You can view the faculty and their interests in the Faculty Profiles, where you will note that many have received honors and awards for their contribution to the knowledge and techniques of chemical engineering.

Our annual research expenditures of approximately $1,000,000 are supported by a variety of governmental agencies and industries, and reflect about a 50/50 split of fundamental research and applications studies.   We maintain particularly close relations with industry, including joint university-industry collaborations in which some graduate students perform their thesis research at an industrial research laboratory.

Chemical Engineering is housed in the five-story Engineering North building, near to the library, and to the physics, chemistry, biochemistry departments.   We also have laboratory space in the new ATRC (Advanced Technology Research Center) and the Hazard Reaction Lab.   You can locate these places on the campus map.   Our research laboratories are well equipped and conveniently located near the Chemical Engineering Offices.   We provide each of our graduate students with a desk and facilities in a research laboratory according to his or her research needs.
